Spiritual Essential Oils

One of the uses of essential oils is to help connect to spirit. Aromatherapist Valerie Ann Worwood writes extensively about spiritual uses of essential oils in the Fragrant Heavens. The following article provides an introduction to using aromatherapy to enhance your study of spiritual matters.

Essential Oils as a Spiritual Study Aid

by KG Stiles

If you are reading A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle or any other spiritual or enlightenment book or course, essential oils can make wonderful study aids, helping set the mood by clearing (Rosemary), creating a sacred space and promoting insight (Frankincense), or giving mental clarity (Basil or Peppermint). Adding essential oils to your spiritual study space can provide welcomed support to your journey.

Diffuse your oils gently in an aroma lamp or diffuser while reading or listening to the material, or dispense a few drops on a tissue nearby.

Rosemary (Rosmarinus Officinalis ct. verbenon) has the highest hydrogen (light) content of all the essential oils. It has a fresh, clean, penetrating and herbaceous aroma. In ancient Greece and Rome, students wore wreaths made of Rosemary to improve mental focus and memory when studying or taking exams! Rosemary's invigorating scent is mentally and physically reviving and a wonderful aid for letting go of feelings of stress, frustration, inner resistance and the tendency to struggle.

Rosemary improves mental capacity and awareness and strengthens the imagination and the ability to evaluate possibilities. This essential oil is a useful aid for meditation as it stabilizes and clears the mind for effective practice.

Peppermint (Mentha piperita) has a distinctly penetrating scent that's great for keeping alert! Most notably Peppermint aids your ability to focus and sustain your attention. When concentration is needed, you can rely on Peppermint.

Use Peppermint when you are in the planning stages of an important project, or need to find motivation to follow through and act on your important decisions. Known to clear brain fog, Peppermint is good for memory retention. Use it alone or in a blend when completing a work project or homework assignment or studying for an exam!

Basil (Ocimum basilicum, ct linalool) has a warm and spicy aromatic scent that's rich in camphor. Sweet Basil smells like the fresh herb. Basil can provide you with a pronounced increase in your ability to be mentally alert when driving late at night, studying for an exam, or dealing with any situation where you need prolonged focus or need to retain information.

Frankincense (Boswelia fereana) is one of the 'Holy' oils from ancient times, when it was considered more valuable than gold. Frankincense has an enticing wood aroma that sweetly sparkles with freshness. The quintessential oil for letting go and allowing whatever happens to be okay, Frankincense's essence fortifies the mind and emotions. Frankincense oil slows and deepens cellular respiration and has the characteristic effect of comforting and centering. Use Frankincense essential oil to promote your spiritual awakening and to enhance your meditation practice.

Aromatherapy is Nature's Medicine in its purest and most essential form. Aromatic Oils are the very soul of a plant. Even a drop or two can produce significant results for your body, mind, and spirit. Properly administered essential oils are a natural, safe, and effective way to enhance your health and well-being and may produce satisfying results where other methods have failed. Please consult with your physician regarding serious health concerns and do not attempt to self diagnose.

PLEASE NOTE: There are many cheap, synthetic copies of aromatic oils, but these are not recommended for therapeutic use. For best results purchase the highest quality oils you can possibly find. Use organically grown or wild crafted essential oils that have been tested for purity and are pesticide free.
