Essential Oils Helpful in Opening the Energy Centers (Chakras)

by Linda Lee Smith

Besides having an energy field, we have energy centers. These whirling wheels of energy emanate from an energy power current that lies along the spinal column. The ancient Sanskrit word for these energy centers is chakras. To individuals who are clairvoyant and visualize these energy centers, they appear as whirling wheels of color and light. These energy centers are considered to be emotional processors.

A power current extends from the crown center (chakra) on the top of the head to the base or root center found in the floor of the perineum. Five more centers also emanate from this power current and whirl outward from the front and back of the body. Each of the seven centers provides energy for part of the body, and each is connected with hormonal glands that keep the body in perfect working order.

Each energy center contains a universal spiritual life-lesson or spiritual message. These are archetypes of seven stages of growth and development. At each stage, we gain a more refined understanding of personal and spiritual power. These seven spiritual life-lessons direct us toward greater consciousness. When we ignore these lessons or don't learn them, illness can manifest.

Essential oils carry a vibrational frequency and can "tune" the body vibrationally when it is out of balance. The following list suggests essential oils helpful in opening and balancing the energy centers:

Root Center: Aromas that have grounding and connecting properties are best for first chakra issues, including myrrh, rosewood, thyme, myrtle, hyssop, cypress, frankincense, and cedarwood.

Sacral Center: Oils for the second chakra are fairly interchangeable with those that affect the first chakra, including jasmine, sandalwood, cedarwood, cypress, clary sage, and frankincense.

Solar Plexus: Oils that affect the digestive organs, the nerves, and the mind are associated with the third chakra including peppermint, lemon, juniper, cedarwood, black pepper, hyssop, roman chamomile, fennel, and frankincense.

Heart Center: Essential oils that are good for heart and lungs affect the fourth chakra, includign rose, ylang ylang, bergamot, melissa, geranium, lavender, spikenard, pine, fir, and frankincense.

Throat Center: These oils that aid breathing and thus the fifth chakra include German chamomile, eucalpytus, cypress, rosewood, rosemary, basil, peppermint, hyssop, and frankincense.

Brow Center: These oils that relate to the mind, the head, and the nervous system include rosemary, peppermint, juniper, lemon, pine, aloes/sandalwood, calamus blended with frankincense, cedarwood, and myrrh.

Crown Center: These oils are also good for the head and nerves and help create a spiritual atmosphere. They include rose, frankincense, cedarwood, lavender, rosemary, and sandalwood.
